There are several techniques available for breast reduction surgery, and the choice of approach depends on the size and shape of your breasts, the degree of reduction desired, and your individual anatomy. In most cases, we use what’s known as the anchor-shaped technique (also called the “inverted-T” or “Wise pattern” reduction).

This method involves making an incision around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and then along the natural fold beneath the breast — creating an anchor-shaped pattern. This approach allows your surgeon to remove the right amount of tissue and skin while reshaping and lifting the breast to achieve a smooth, natural contour. The resulting scars usually fade significantly over time and can be easily hidden beneath most bras or swimwear.

In smaller reductions or where less lifting is required, alternative techniques may be used, such as a vertical (lollipop) incision or, more rarely, a periareolar (donut) incision, which limits scarring to around the areola.
