Heavy upper eye lids

Heavy upper eyelids are a concern for a significant number of women. Some see them as a giveaway of their age; others worry that they give them a sleepy appearance. However, the hooding caused by drooping lids is not simply an aesthetic concern: there is also a functional drawback to their appearance. With the skin of the eyelid resting on the lashes, applying eye makeup can become difficult, while the vision may become compromised. Some patients even find that they experience excess tension in the forehead, as a result of constantly elevating the brow to reduce the obstruction caused by heavy upper lids.

Surgical treatments

When skin excess is significant, or if you are looking for more improvement than can’t be achieved non-surgically, then the upper lids can be improved by means of an Upper Lid Blepharoplasty. This simple, straightforward procedure is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient by our consultant plastic surgeon, Mr Russell Bramhall, who can advise if surgery is the right option for you.

Non-surgical options

When there is only a little skin excess, and the patient is relatively young, it is possible to achieve an optimal result by injectable treatments to elevate the brow slightly. This can also be an option for patients who have more severe hooding, who do not wish to have surgery and are willing to accept sub-optimal correction. Consultation for non-surgical upper eye lift treatments are available with all of our aesthetic doctors, including Dr Darren McKeown and Dr Rhona Cameron.
