Sagging cheeks

The cheeks are one of the most important features of the face, therefore administering cheek filler requires a deep understanding of the facial anatomy – as well as a high degree of artistry. When treating the cheek area with dermal fillers, a combination approach treating multiple anatomical sites is usually necessary. This enables us to address the mid-face holistically: supporting the features that have started to deteriorate, while enhancing the features that were sub-optimal. This 360-degree approach is what leads to the most elegant restoration of the cheek area, while effectively bringing the face back to life.

What can help?

Many patients are afraid of cheek filler, for fear of ending up with “hamster cheeks”. However, carefully performed – while using the correct amount for the individual face – the results can be transformative, yet beautifully subtle. In the patient example below a very small amount of dermal filler – just 2mls – was used to add some additional width to the mid-face. In addition, a small amount of muscle relaxing injections in the frown area contributed to a more rested appearance.

Restoring more volume

In the next patient example, a more comprehensive restoration was performed, replacing lost volume in both the mid-face and also the lateral cheekbone area, using a total of 4mls of dermal filler. Although this patients more mature face required a higher volume of filler, notice how she does not have any of the hallmarks of treatment: just a more rested appearance.

Holistic facial restoration

The Volumetric Facelift, often regarded as the ultimate non-surgical facelift, is a holistic solution to facial ageing, underpinned by our contemporary understanding of the anatomy of the face and the structural changes that occur over time. This approach is less invasive than traditional surgical facelift methods, which focus on removing excess skin and soft tissues. The objective is to restore the lost volume as the years go by, replacing lost fat and bone. This results in a fresher, more youthful-looking appearance that addresses volume-deficient areas and sagging skin.

Common Questions

What are the benefits?

Cheek Filler works in several different ways. By restoring the tissues that have atrophied (shrunk) over time, treatment can help to restore a youthful face shape, while supporting the delicate eye area and preventing the lower-lid from being dragged downwards. It also lifts the mid-face: preventing a slackening lower-face and sagging in the Jowls.

Which anaesthetic is used?

We use dermal fillers which contain a local anaesthetic known as lidocaine, which helps to reduce discomfort – while use of a topical numbing cream can be of benefit for patients who are anxious.

What's the downtime?

Post-procedure, you may see a bit of swelling and the area will feel tender – however, this has normally passed by the next morning. Most patients who have Cheek Filler are back to their normal activities the same day. If bruising does occur, it can be covered with post-procedure makeup – though this should not be applied until the day following treatment. We also encourage patients to sleep with their head elevated for the first few nights following the procedure, to keep any swelling to a minimum.

What's the downtime?

The effect is subtle yet immediate: the cheeks look firmer, with the bone structure gently defined – while the face appears well-rested and looks somehow happier. The best results are seen in two weeks’ time, when the filler has fully integrated with the tissue and the face has settled.
