What is a traditional facelift?

The traditional facelift procedure, or rhytidectomy, involves incisions behind the ears and is ideal for Ayr patients who are unhappy about sagging skin around the jowls, neck and, in some cases, in the cheek area.  However, this traditional type of facelift does not remove signs of ageing around the eyes or forehead, improve skin quality or address deep lines around the mouth.

A full facelift at our clinic near Ayr includes procedures to address all these areas, rejuvenating the entire face.

The advantages of a full facelift

The ageing process affects the skin and face in so many ways that a range of procedures is required to restore a fresh and youthful appearance. The face’s bone structure shrinks with age, removing support for the soft tissues and allowing them to sag. Fat is lost from the lower layers of the skin, making the features look hollow. The surface layer of the skin can lose its youthful smoothness, and uneven pigmentation may develop.

The McKeown Medical team includes aesthetic specialists who each have their area of expertise in reversing the signs of ageing. Every element of your treatment plan is delivered by an expert with a track record of consistently excellent results.

What happens during a full facelift?

The full facelift addresses patient concerns about the signs of ageing on their faces and necks.

Surgical incisions are made behind the ears and along the hairline to access the facial muscles, which are gently tightened to lift the features and smooth the skin. Our talented surgeons remove overstretched, loose skin, targeting problem areas like the jawline, cheeks, and neck.

We prefer to use the deep plane facelift technique. This lift technique allows for a bespoke approach designed to address individual needs. Using this technique, we perform many facelifts with subtle but stunning results. The full facelift restores youthful freshness to the face and neck. Additional cosmetic procedures, such as restoring lost volume and eliminating skin pigmentation, can enhance this effect even more.

When will I see the benefits of my full facelift?

The procedure’s benefits will take about six months to be fully realised.

The results of non-surgical procedures like fillers to restore volume will be apparent immediately, but recovery from the surgical aspects of your procedure will take longer. After around six months, all the post-lift swelling will have disappeared, your incisions will have fully healed, and the complete transformation of your face will be revealed.

You can find before and after pictures of patients with full facelifts here.

Are the results of a full facelift permanent?

The deep plane facelift gives our Ayr clients long-lasting, natural-looking results. The procedure lifts your features and restores a smoother, more youthful appearance to your skin.

A healthy lifestyle and high-quality skin care, including sun protection, will help to maintain your natural beauty after your facelift. Still, your face will continue to age, and eventually, you may choose to have further treatments.

Will I need further treatments?

Many patients choose to have procedures to maintain their glow, and we offer a range of surgical and nonsurgical treatments to keep the skin fresh and youthful.

Many patients visit the clinic twice yearly for BBL skin treatments and injectables to protect their skin against developing lines and wrinkles and preserve its freshness.

How long is the recovery period after a full facelift?

It is important to rest after your procedure to allow your body to heal. We advise our Ayr patients to take things easy for at least two weeks. It is normal to have bruising and swelling after your procedure, which may worsen in the days following your facelift. Sleeping on your back with your head raised helps reduce face swelling.

There will be some pain after your facelift, but our Ayr patients find that the simple over-the-counter pain relief we prescribe is sufficient to control discomfort. Infection control is vital to successful healing, and it is essential to keep your wounds clean by washing your hair daily and allowing hot water to run over the surgical sutures. We routinely prescribe a course of antibiotics to prevent infection. Aftercare is a priority at McKeown Medical, and you will have regular checkups so we can check on your healing.  These will continue for six months to ensure that you are completely happy with the results of your full facelift.

We support our patients with healing issues but also with the emotional support and advice sometimes required when patients are getting used to their rejuvenated appearance.

Is the full facelift procedure painful?

We perform our procedures using a local anaesthetic, which allows our Ayr patients to return home the same day as long as they are cared for by a responsible adult for the first 24 hours.

How much does a full facelift near Ayr cost?

The price of the full facelift starts at £20,000. The cost of your facelift will vary according to the combination of procedures in your treatment plan.
