BBL SKIN REJUVENATION TREATMENT IN GLASGOW

In our practice, we believe that results matter. That’s why we’ve invested in the BBL® HERO™ (Broadband Light; High Energy Rapid Output) device from Sciton, the Rolls Royce of laser manufacturers. Skin rejuvenation using this laser device offers a far more advanced treatment than traditional IPL therapy.

The BBL Hero offers some of the most sophisticated IPL photorejuvenation technology available. It works by pulsing high energy light into the skin, breaking down pigments and blood vessels whilst simultaneously stimulating collagen production. It is an excellent treatment to simultaneously target age spots, blood vessels, facial redness and enlarged pores, as well as for creating a smoother, more even skin texture.

The best part of the treatment is that it has virtually no downtime — and it can be used on any part of the body. Along with reducing the signs of sun damage on the face, we can also use BBL to treat the chest, arms and legs. Anywhere you have ageing or sun damaged skin, BBL can help.

FAQS

This patient underwent a course of BBL to improve her skin quality, and reduce the appearance of her adult acne.

How many treatments do I need?

Most patients will have a course of 3 treatments, each spaced about a month apart. When you have completed your initial course of treatment, we typically recommend maintenance treatments.

A single maintenance session every 6-12 months can help you maintain the results and keep up the collagen stimulation.

This patient underwent BBL to clear her complexion, improving skin tone and reducing the appearance of broken veins and capillaries.

How does the treatment feel?

Each pulse of light feels like a mild snap against the skin. Sometimes when we are targeting specific blood vessels or patches of pigmentation, the energy level can feel a little hotter, but overall most patients describe the discomfort level as 2 or 3 out of 10.

It takes about 15-20 minutes to treat a full face and a little more if we are also treating the neck and chest.

This patient underwent BBL treatment to reduce sun damage, pigmentation, and brighten her complexion.

What should I expect after my BBL treatment?

Following treatment, your skin will typically be a little red and you may have some swelling. These are usually very mild and resolve within a few hours, so most people can get back to work and normal activities straight after their treatment.

Occasionally — particularly for patients who have a lot of sun damage on their skin — the swelling can be a little more intense after the BBL treatment, in which case a couple of days of downtime might be better. If we think you might fall into this category, we will let you know at the time of your consultation so you can plan ahead for your recovery.

THE BENEFITS OF A BBL SKIN TREATMENT

As a highly advanced version of intense pulsed light (IPL), BBL® is a more powerful treatment that allows us to be more specific in the skin problems and the issues we want to target. With this newer, more sophisticated version of IPL, we can create a more significant improvement in skin quality — regardless of whether you want to target pigment, rosacea or thread veins.

BBL® uses a wider range of light filters and the energy can be adjusted creatively during a treatment, which means it is a more adaptable and customisable tool that can treat more skin conditions accurately and precisely.

We can do multiple passes on the skin with the BBL device, which allows us to treat multiple issues in a single session. A typical session will involve 3 or 4 passes that target different issues.

The BBL® HERO™ device also offers a treatment that is less painful than a traditional IPL skin treatment. It is popular because — whether you want to reduce signs of ageing or sun damage — BBL provides rapid, comfortable treatment.

WHEN TO CONSIDER BBL

BBL is ideal for patients who are at the earlier stages of the ageing process, as well as for more mature patients who want a gentle treatment with no downtime.

A BBL face treatment can be used to address many skin problems caused by ageing and sun damage, including:

  • Age spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Skin texture
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Pigmentation Broken capillaries (also known as spider veins, thread veins or broken veins)

HOW DOES BBL WORK?

To understand how BBL treatments work, we need to first address how an IPL laser treatment works. Intense pulsed light therapy uses light energy through pulsed light units to promote skin rejuvenation. The wavelengths of light convert to heat, which decreases or destroys unwanted structures in the skin to create an even skin tone. A skin rejuvenation IPL treatment also induces the skin’s healing response, promoting collagen formation.

A BBL facial treatment at our aesthetic clinic in Glasgow differs in that the handpiece contains a special filter that allows us to alter the wavelength of the light throughout the treatment session.

The BBL device delivers high energy intense pulses of light into the skin, which then disperses into energy within the skin. Because of the level of control this device gives us, a BBL treatment can address different skin concerns depending on the wavelength of the light used.

For this exciting and versatile treatment, we typically treat the skin with 4 or 5 different passes of the BBL device, each time changing the filters and settings to target different issues within the skin. The final pass is usually the SkinTyte pass, which uses higher wavelengths to penetrate deeper into the skin, stimulating collagen production. This is what helps, over time, to improve the texture of the skin.

HOW DOES BBL COMPARE?

BBL provides a more advanced alternative to traditional IPL face treatment.

BBL Hero vs Traditional Laser

A traditional laser has only one wavelength of light, so it typically only treats one issue per laser.

What makes BBL treatments so popular is that they can provide many wavelengths for more a comprehensive skin rejuvenation that covers a larger skin area.

BBL Hero vs IPL

BBL (BroadBand Light) therapy is a more advanced version of IPL. We used to make use of IPL devices in the clinic, but we upgraded to BBL because it is more powerful and more customisable than standard IPL. We now use the Sciton BBL device for each and every IPL treatment at our Glasgow clinic.

While an IPL skin rejuvenation treatment can also be effective at targeting age spots, broken veins and other skin concerns, it is also often associated with more painful sessions compared to the BBL device.

BBL Hero as an Acne Treatment

To treat acne, we begin with a pass of blue light, which is effective at reducing p.acnes, the bacteria associated with acne. Next, a pass is performed to reduce the redness in the skin associated with the inflammation of acne. Finally, a SkinTyte pass is performed to help repair the texture of skin suffering from acne.
