Vascular & Veins

Visible blood vessels are a source of bother for many of our patients. Over time, these vessels dilate and become increasingly noticeable: resulting in facial redness that not only makes the patient feel self-conscious but also causes the skin to appear inflamed or in poor condition. Fortunately, our knowledge of blood vessels, in combination with the very latest in vascular technology, enables us to lessen the appearance of Thread Veins, Rosacea and Broken Capillaries – while reinstating both skin homogeneity and health.

The vascular network

When talking about facial redness, we often refer to veins; however, the role of the veins is to carry deoxygenated (blue) blood away from the tissues. The main culprits that cause facial redness are actually the capillaries or arterioles, which supply oxygenated (red) blood to the tissues. Of course, when the skin is young and healthy, these blood vessels are well-organised and therefore are less visible. It is only in later life, following cumulative injury (perhaps as a result of sun damage or rosacea) that they start to become noticeable.

Tailor made treatment

Vascular concerns can be treated with varying approaches, including Laser and BBL (Broad Band Light); however, before treatment commences, a thorough consultation is necessary in order to understand the origin of the concern and also the patient’s goals. Both treatments emit varying wavelengths into the skin, which react with the target pigment haemoglobin (the red pigment within the blood cells), causing it to shatter. When the pigment shatters, it generates heat which helps to destroy and shut down the irregular blood vessels.
