Nose contouring

Non-surgical nose reshaping takes advantage of a recent trend in rhinoplasty to ‘rebuild’ rather than ‘remove tissues when reshaping the nose. Nose reshaping using dermal fillers is an excellent alternative to surgical rhinoplasty if you are looking for subtle changes to the profile of your nose without wanting to go under the knife.

How Does It Work?

Non-surgical nose reshaping

The treatment involves a series of injections, strategically placed, in different parts of the nose. In most cases, there is a bump in the middle section of the nose. To camouflage this, we inject above the bump to blend it in.

Next, we usually add some filler to the tip to improve the tip projection. Ideally, the tip of the nose should sit slightly higher than the bridge of the nose creating a ‘supra tip break’. Having this contour creates the illusion of a smaller, more feminine nose – even if the nose is technically larger following filler injections.

The treatment

The non-surgical rhinoplasty is sometimes called ‘liquid rhinoplasty’ or the ’15-minute nose job’ because this revolutionary injection procedure is so simple yet effective. Although it is simple, it doesn’t mean it’s risk free – there are some important blood vessels in the nose that we need to take care to avoid.

By using dermal fillers injected around the nose tissue to subtly change the contour of the nose, this treatment offers a less invasive option for nose reshaping compared with surgical rhinoplasty.

The placement of each injection is extremely precise and will be decided in your consultation according to your reshaping desires and requirements. For each of the patients at our Glasgow-based clinic, we ensure that the non-surgical rhinoplasty treatment is tailored to suit their unique needs.

As this is not an invasive rhinoplasty surgery but a non-surgical injected filler, there is no need for general anaesthesia. There is a little local anaesthetic built into the filler material which means there is usually no requirement for any additional use of anaesthetic.

Are you ready to start your consultation?

Finding the right treatment for you is the most important factor in ensuring that you are on the correct path to achieve the results you desire. Our pre-consultation enquiry helps us to identify your needs and, ultimately, gets you on the right path to achieving your optimal results.

Reasons To Have Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

The non-surgical rhinoplasty allows patients to change the shape of their nose, creating a more harmonious profile, without committing to surgery. Surgery does, of course, offer you more options in terms of the changes that can be achieved – and sometimes surgery will be the only option to achieve your goals – but for many patients hoping to achieve minor changes to their profile, a non-surgical rhinoplasty can deliver you needs.

Examples of how this nose job alternative with nose fillers can provide a cosmetic solution include:

• bridge augmentation for smaller or flatter noses

• nasal tip projection to change the rotational angle of the nose tip

• hump correction to straighten a slightly more hook-shaped nose

• smoothing minor indentations for a straighter look

What to Expect

A patient before and after treatment at McKeown Medical.

Your First 15-Minute Rhinoplasty

Everything you need to know about the treatment will be covered in your consultation, but there are a few things that are good to know.

Before

Before your non-invasive rhinoplasty consultation, you should have a clear idea of what you want – as well as what you don’t want.

With this information, you can explain to the doctor what you would like to achieve – and the doctor can let you know if that is something that is possible to achieve without surgery. The doctor will talk you through the possible side effects of treatment, including blocking an artery that can – in rare cases – result in loss of vision.

On the day of your treatment, make sure you feel well and are well-hydrated and are not going in on an empty stomach. This reduces your chances of feeling faint during the injections.

During

Once you have discussed your desired results with your doctor, the doctor may apply some anaesthetic cream to numb the tip of the nose, which is typically the most sensitive part.

Before the injections begin we will use a special antiseptic solution to cleanse the skin thoroughly, to minimise the risk of infection. Then the injections will begin. In between each injection the doctor will check the side view of your nose to assess the progress being made and, if required, adjust the treatment plan to best achieve your goals. You may feel slight pressure or pinching, but the anaesthetic will ensure that you do not experience any real pain.

This is a quick process that is usually done in anything between 15 and 20 minutes.

After

After the non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure, the treated area might be slightly red or swollen, but you will be able to resume normal activities such as driving yourself home from the clinic.

Typically any redness, swelling or bruising should resolve in a few days. You should be able to see an initial improvement immediately after treatment, although it will usually look better when the filler has had a couple of weeks to settle in place.

Recovery & Aftercare

Recovery & Aftercare

Nose fillers are a non-invasive treatment using injections so your skin will remain intact. While you may experience sensitivity around the treated area for the first 24 hours, there is no downtime for most patients and you can return to work immediately. The only thing we ask you to be vigilant about is keeping the skin nice and clean – which means no make up for 24 hours. This is to reduce the chances of bugs entering the needle puncture sites causing infections.

Most patients will chose to have a touch up to their nose after about 12 months. Typically however second treatments often last longer and the period between treatments gets longer each time you do it.

Common Questions

Who Should Get a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

The procedure is ideal for people who want minor alterations to the profile, or contours of their nose, without having to undergo a surgical procedure. This procedure is mainly for people concerned with the appearance of their nose from the side view. If it is mainly the front view that bothers you, then a traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be the best option.

What Are The Limitations?

The procedure works best for people who are looking for small changes to the nose.

If you have a very large nose or are looking for dramatic changes to your nose then a traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be a more appropriate option.

How Long Do The Results Last?

The effects of the filler vary from person to person, although most people typically need their first re-do about 12 months after the first treatment.
